【How to Choose a Precision Inner Barrel?】

With so many upgrade brands currently available on the market, each promoting different performance characteristics, how should players properly choose a precision inner barrel?

As most players know, the inner barrel is the primary path through which the BB travels, and it is also one of the most critical components affecting overall shooting performance.

Generally, the most important indicators of a high-quality precision inner barrel can be summarized into three key factors:

• Straightness
• Bore surface finish
• Coaxiality

These factors directly influence BB stability, airflow consistency, friction characteristics, and overall trajectory performance.


【Bore Surface Finish】

The smoothness of the inner bore directly affects friction consistency as the BB travels through the barrel.

A simple inspection method is to hold the barrel against a bright and evenly lit background while observing light reflection inside the bore. If visible wave-like patterns appear along the inner surface, this usually indicates uneven machining or surface inconsistency.

The more noticeable the surface irregularities are, the more they may disturb the BB during travel — similar to how an uneven road surface affects vehicle stability.

Additionally, certain grooved, slotted, or ported barrel designs may also alter airflow behavior and BB contact characteristics to varying degrees, potentially influencing shooting performance.


【Straightness】

Straightness refers to how accurately the inner bore maintains a true linear path.

Some users attempt to check barrel straightness by rolling the barrel on a flat surface. However, this method is heavily influenced by the outer diameter and may not accurately represent the actual inner bore condition.

A more reliable method is optical inspection.

When viewing the barrel against a light source, multiple circular light rings can usually be seen inside the bore. If these rings appear evenly aligned and concentric, it generally indicates better machining precision and improved bore straightness.

In rare cases, it is still possible to encounter situations where:

• The inner bore is straight
• The outer diameter is slightly offset

This is typically caused by machining tolerances or production defects.

Because of this, external appearance alone may not fully represent the true precision of the inner barrel.


【Coaxiality】

Coaxiality refers to how consistently the barrel maintains alignment along its central axis.

Good coaxiality helps the BB maintain a more stable centered trajectory while reducing unwanted contact and lateral disturbance during travel.

This becomes especially important in:

• Multi-part structures
• Assembly-based designs
• Systems combined with HOP chambers or outer barrels

If coaxial alignment is insufficient, it may directly affect:

• Trajectory stability
• BB centering consistency
• Shooting repeatability
• Long-range performance

Because of this, even if an individual barrel is manufactured with high precision, overall system alignment after installation still plays a major role in final shooting performance.
